Table captains are integral to making every HRC Seattle Gala Dinner a success. When you volunteer to become a table captain, you take a special role in promoting the Gala Dinner by agreeing to invite 9 other people to join you for the event, and you ensure that you will make your evening more meaningful because you get to invite the friends, family, and colleagues with whom you want to spend the evening.
Any individual, business, or organization can become a Table Captain. To volunteer to captain a table, please contact as tablecaptain@hrcseattle.org

What is a Table Captain?
A Table Captain is a person, business, or organization that volunteers to lead the effort to fill one or more tables of ten people the night of the Gala Dinner. They are key participants in the success of this Gala Dinner, making it one of the most successful in the nation each year. By volunteering to be a Table Captain, you commit filling a table (or multiple tables) by inviting your friends, family, and colleagues to sit at your table on September 15, 2012.
Do I have to purchase all of the tickets for the entire table?
You do not have to buy all of the tickets for the ten seats at your table, although you can choose to purchase tickets for all of the people you invite if you so choose. Most HRC Table Captains, however, buy only their own tickets and then ask the people they invite to purchase tickets to the Gala Dinner and join them at their table.
How do I organize a table?
Filling your table is easy! Simply extend invitations to people that you would like to join you for the Gala Dinner. Invite your friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, or whoever else you feel would not only want to spend a special evening with you but also support HRC advocacy, education, and efforts to make equality count.
The best invitation for your guests is a personal one, and we can help. We can provide sample language to include in your invitations and give you other tools to help explain what HRC is and what it does, to give your invitees information about the Dinner Gala and what to expect, and to create interest in purchasing tickets and attending the event, not to mention direct them to Box Office Tickets so that they can purchase tickets and select your table for seating.
Most importantly, don’t wait until the last minute. People’s calendars fill up quickly, and you will want your invitees to put September 15, 2012 on their calendar as soon as possible so that they do not miss their chance to attend the Gala Dinner.
What if someone asks me why they should attend?
This year is proving itself as a pivotal year for LGBT equality. HRC is working across the entire nation to make equality count for LGBT people. More importantly, this year, Washington is a battleground state for marriage equality. Although we have been given full marriage equality by Washington’s Legislature, special-interest groups have filed a referendum (Referendum 74) on our new rights, and in November, our hard-fought marriage equality rights will be put to public vote. Those special-interest groups are pouring money and resources into Washington to defeat Referendum 74 and prevent gay and lesbian couples from finally having the ability to marry like other committed, loving couples. In addition, 2012 will feature important elections for President, Governor, Congress, and the Washington State Legislature.
The dinner is a special evening that you don’t want to miss, equally poignant, reflective, fun, and energizing. It gives everyone who attends an opportunity to reflect on our successes and our challenges. In addition, your attendance at our Gala Dinner not only shows your support and commitment to LGBT equality, but the revenue generated at this year’s Gala Dinner will fund HRC’s work here in Washington and across the nation.
This is a crucial moment in history for the LGBT community, and we need your help to make equality count.
What if I don’t fill the entire table for the event?
We are eager to have you fill your table and create the best event for you and your group possible. Our local volunteer leadership will provide you with the resources and information necessary to help you fill your table with the people you invite. In the event you are unable to fill every seat, however, you will not be penalized in any way. Instead, we will reward your hard work by seating other ticket-holders at your table so that you have a full table of HRC supporters to celebrate and enjoy the evening’s events.
We want the Gala Dinner and auction to be a fun, energizing, and engaging event for you and for your guests, and will support you in your efforts to fill a table. So, give it a try! We promise you will not be disappointed.
Where do I and my invited guests purchase tickets?
Tickets can be purchased via the Dinner website at www.hrcseattle.org/dinner/tickets.
